With it's pole rounding machines successfully exported to New Zealand and New Caledonia, Moorhead Engineering have developed a ‘Moorhead Perfect Rounder' with increased capacity (up to 400mm dia.). The local Australian-made machines provide a superior finish with it's unique bent knife technology.
Shane Moorhead from Moorhead Engineering in Oberon said that over the last five years the machines in the marketplace have been tried and proven. “We are seeing that the machines will last years with minimal maintenance, and retaining the excellent quality finish they are renown for. We make a heavy-duty machine to withstand a harsh environment, built to survive the rigors of hardwood or Cypress Pine production, and even a hire company arrangement.”
The New Zealand machine has achieved production rates of 40-45 cubic metres per day in 115mm dia finished size logs and 46-50 cubic metres per day in 135mm dia. finished size.
“The machine has four knives, set by bolting each holder into the pre-drilled face plate. Knife size changes take only 15 to 20 minutes saving time and allowing the machine to produce more each day. The machine utilizes a bent knife to prevent excessive tearing around knots on Pinus Radiata logs, achieving a superior clean finish,” said Mr. Moorhead.
The Pole rounding machines can be manufactured to operate as a portable unit, or can be configured to be a factory-fixed unit. Moorhead Engineering also manufactures a Singulator Step Feeder to automate existing debarking & pole rounding operations. This unit can incorporate a kick-out kicker for grading timber prior to entry to the rounding or de-barking machine. An option also available is a unit with a second head for pre-roughing excess timber from the pole, prior to running through the finishing head. This boosts production as there is no need to be re-run a log that won't quite clean-up
